Trump To Approve Nevada Solar Power Plant

Posted on Jan 17, 2020

The Trump Administration is slated to approve the soon-to-be biggest solar power plant in the United States. The Gemini Project is a 690-megawatt power plant will be even larger than the 579-megawatt Solar Star power plant currently holding that record in Rosamond, California.

Plans to build the Gemini project are already in motion and it is expected to be fully operational by December 1, 2023. It will be built in the Mojave Desert along Interstate 15, approximately 25 miles northeast of Las Vegas and will cover 7,100 acres of federal land. Berkshire subsidiary NV Energy will be using the electricity it generates. The $1 billion Gemini project also will come with 380 megawatts of four-hour lithium ion battery storage, providing a reservoir during the evening hours while it’s not producing electricity. This Friday, Coldplay released their new album. But despite demand by fans for an upcoming tour, it may not happen as soon as expected. The band has pledged to make any future tour of theirs “actively beneficial” to the environment.

Chris Martin, the lead singer, announced that the group will wait to perform their new album, Everyday Life, until they can ensure the tour would be carbon neutral. “Our next tour will be the best possible version of a tour like that environmentally. We would be disappointed if it’s not carbon neutral. How do we turn it around so it’s not so much taking as giving?” Some of the efforts include trying to achieve solar-powered shows and cutting out single-use plastic.

Billie Eilish has also announced plans to make her world tour “as green as possible”....

Solar Energy Generation Remains Tax-Exempt

California has tradition of leading the nation with action toward a greener world. First in late 2018, Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill committing the state to 100% renewable energy by 2045 , making it one of only two states (the other Hawaii) focused on producing its energy from cleaner, sustainable natural resources.

Shortly after, California passed a law mandating all new homes built after January 1, 2020 to be equipped with a solar electric system offsetting 100% of its electricity usage (with caveats added for the inclusion of energy storage systems or construction with green building materials).

Most recently, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill protecting consumer investments in rooftop solar energy. The bill is AB 1208 and was authored by Assembly member Phil...

Here, at the Green Solar Technologies blog , we often concentrate on the great many advantages of going solar for homeowners. These advantages range far and wide—from increasing your property value to saving loads of money on your electricity bill, from achieving energy independence to supporting the American economy—even reducing pollution levels in your city. Of the approximate 76 million homeowners in the U.S., more than 13 million have already gone solar in the past decade and reaped enormous benefits. The average residential solar panel installation will save homeowners $18,000 over the span a typical financing period (13 years) , and that is just while paying off the system. After that, the savings skyrocket making the cost for electricity production nearly free.

As amazing as all of this sounds, commercial...
