Could Solar Energy really be the cheapest source of electricity?
The answer, according to a new report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA), is yes.
The IEA reported last week that in some parts of the world, solar power is now the cheapest source of electricity in history, thanks to policies encouraging renewable energy growth.
Sunshine is free, but the technology needed to turn it into usable electricity can be expensive. To encourage more people and companies to switch to solar power, countries can adjust their policies to make purchasing that equipment more affordable. Today, more than 130 countries have policies that lower the cost of building new solar installations. This is the first year that the IEA took such policies into consideration when calculating the cost of solar energy in its annual...

When the COVID-19 panic began to grow, many people feared that the solar industry would be put on hold until economies reopened and life returned to relative normalcy. With the desire to save money and minimize interactions with others, it makes sense that this was predicted once most Americans were ordered to stay at home.
However, the past few months have shown that reality may not reflect this prediction. To the surprise of many people in the energy industry, the desire to go solar actually has increased.

As a result, many former skeptics of solar energy are taking a step back and realizing the financial benefits they would reap should they decide to make the switch.
Solar panels were once seen as a luxury for the elite. However, it’s becoming increasingly clear that this stigma is no longer accurate. Solar panels are extremely affordable for the average consumer, as they've dropped in price as much as 70 percent over only the last decade.
